Hello v1b3, and welcome to the forums.
Do you have an Eris?
If so, the apps drawer (the little arrow shaped icon to the left of the "phone") is populated with icons of apps which are already installed on your device.
"Market" is an app download and sales application in there. Click "Market" and just follow the menus in it, "free," "paid," "popular," etc. .. or use the search feature at the top right (the little magnifying glass icon) to type in something you might want in particular.

I would also add that if you download the "Barcode Scanner" app from the market, as Frisco pointed you to, you will be able to use that to scan the app QR codes that will link you to a site to download them. (They are those funny square box looking barcodes you see on the app websites)
