Apps using internet in background (Wifi and 4g)

Recently I have been noticing that whenever I unlock the phone and go to the homescreen, I look at the WiFi connection icon in the notification bar and it almost always has some activity.

I'm not sure which process or app is using all of that data, but it would be nice to know. I don't have any auto-updating widgets, and I only have 1 account syncing (my google account - calenders, contacts, gmail). I tried going into settings -> data usage, but that only seems to show mobile network data, not WiFi.

Anyway, I'm trying to figure out if theres a way to see which programs/processess are using that background data at any given time. Thanks

You need a monitoring tool from Play Store to check what is using it.

Remember, that when you unlock the screen, the phone re-checks data connectivity and that may be the reason for it to show up like that.

Can I ask why it bothers you? Do you have a limited amount of data per month? If not don't worry about it as it's totally normal. Sync/widgets/connection status etc will always do a check when you unlock the phone.
