Apps want Contact Data?

I've noticed a lot of programs (Barcode Scanner, Where, Google Translate, Google Maps, Zedge, & others) want access to Read/Write Contact Data.

Is there ANY legitimate reason I would want to allow this for these particular apps?

Well, you can store contact info in QR codes (check here). That's probably why Barcode scanner needs access to your contacts - for when you scan a "business card" type of QR code.

Lots of apps have options to send things to your contacts, etc. At the end of the day, you don't have any choice IF you want to use those apps. You either accept it or don't install the app.
