Apps will and will not install

A few months ago I was given a working apollo for my son it was in great condition and well looked after being as there were a lot of files and apps not needed I did a factory reset and started loading some of the apps he used on his old phone unfortunately for some reason the dropbox app will not show up in the app store eventhough
I have it from there on my tablets since then I've noticed some apps are available and install with no problem and some dont appear in the store, I went to the dropbox site and downloaded the app but when
I tried to install it a popup informed me it could not read the parsec (think that was the spelling) I looked it up and the definition means it can't read the beginning or end not being really tech minded I'm at a loss and could use some advise.
The phone is running eclair and has had no modification done to it.
Thanx for any help

Eclair is a very old version of Android (think Windows 95). Some apps just can't run on it because they depend on things provided by later versions of Android. That's why they don't show up in the Play store and why, even if you get them and install them, they either won't finish installing, or they won't run. See if you can find a later version of Android (even Gingerbread, though old, runs a lot more apps than Eclair) that can be flashed to that phone.
