Aptoide persists even after uninstalling?

Hi guys, first time poster so greetings to all!

So I was trying to find a particular APK online. Aptoide’s webpage was one of the first google results claiming to have the apk available to install.

It forced me to install Aptoide first and then I found the APK on their store and tried to install it. Aptoide kept telling me it was installed but every time I checked my app drawer, the new app was not there.

Eventually got bored with this and uninstalled Aptoide from the device. I found a genuine link for the APK I was looking for elsewhere online but now every time I try to download the APK using that link, I keep being taken back to Aptoide’s installer page, prompting me to reinstall the Aptoide app in order to download and install the APK. As far as I can tell the link is not in any way affiliated with Aptoide. I’ve also since found other sources for the APK online and every single one of them initiates Aptoide’s installer when I try to download them.

What might be going on?!

Did you go into your apps list for that new app? It may be there afterall and needs Aptoide's installer to remove it? (just guessing, I never use Aptoide ... don't like their policies.)

Hi! Thanks for replying!

Yes checked everywhere I could think of. Also went through every file in the registry to see if there were any mentions of it, or if Aptoide itself (after I’d uninstalled it). There weren’t.

I know for sure the APK doesn’t require the Aptoide platform as an installer because I’ve installed the same APK a bunch of times before on a few devices, always without the need for a third party installer. However it’s becoming progressively more and more difficult to find genuine sources of links to this particular APK so after eyeballing a few that I decided were untrustworthy I saw the Aptoide result and thought it would be worth a shot since I was aware of Aptoide and had read it was a genuine platform. I also knew to be careful with what I took from there because although it is known to be genuine as a platform, it also has been known to contain some malware dressed up as APKs. But this particular APK I was looking for is a very popular one so I knew that wouldn’t be the issue either.

I just can’t get my head around why I’m automatically being rerouted to the Aptoide install wizard every time I try to install this APK now. It’s freaking me out a little, lol.

Try using a different file manager to install your apk. Maybe Aptoide has hijacked your current one. The only other thing to check would be defaults in app settings or if the apk or Aptoide is listed as a device administrator. Just thinking outside out loud.

Some of those pages LOOK like the link they present is the app you're looking for but is only a prompt to install aptiode.. Look elsewhere or possibly lower on the site for the actual link, IF it exists. But make sure ya uninstall it and reboot before looking again, clear the caches and stuff so aptoide doesn't think it's still there. Also possible the app is a 'ghost app' which looks normal but disappears upon install, being renamed to something less noticeable like 'databackup.apk' and icon change. BE WARNED: IF YOU DID NOT INTENTIONALLY DL a ghost app, FACTORY RESET IMMEDIATELY TO REMOVE!!
