are applets on webpages supported?

stupid question: when you browse to a webpage with an applet on it, will it be executed on a G1?

seems like our browsers (both the stock and steel) do not support Java because the Virtual Machine embedded in our devices is the Davlik VM which is incompatible with Sun's bytecode
