Are Books Fully Downloaded?

Hi everyone,

Newbie here... I used Play Store to get some free books from the "Top Free" list. When I exit from the Play Store I can then see all of the books I went after. My question is, have these actually been fully downloaded to my phone, or is it just a few pointers that are initially on the phone, with Android then downloading chapters as I read them?

The reason I'm asking is that I'll be doing some traveling soon and I don't want to be suddenly hit by huge roaming charges.

When I access the books in the Play Store it seemed to happen very quickly, hence my suspicion that it's not the full book that's initially downloaded. Can anyone clarify this for me?

As far as I'm aware, they're just pointers/added to your online library.

If you want to store them on your device, open the Play Books app, head to My Library and it will show you a list of books you've got linked to your account. Underneath the book you want to download, hit the 3 vertical dots, then Keep on Device. A little drawing pin icon should appear underneath the book letting you know it's been stored on the device for offline reading.

Many thanks for this! I see that the pins can be either grayed out, completely colored in, or partially colored (looks like just the head of the pin). I trust these mean not downloaded, fully downloaded and partially downloaded (presumably in progress, then).

Thanks again - this was most helpful!

Yeah, on my devices a white pin against a blue background means it fully downloaded.

Same on my device. To verify they you can read them offline, turn on airplane mode and open the book. If you can browse thru it, your good to go.
