Help Are Idle Widgets Draining on the Battery?

This is my first smartphone. I was told that widgets on the home screen are battery killers. Is it best to limit them to preserve battery life?

It depends on how active the widget is.

As an example, a widget that's actively searching and updating a facebook status will use more battery than a widget that updates the weather every 3 hours... and that one will use more than a widget used to turn your wifi on/off.

I highly recommend GSam Battery Monitor Pro. I identified widgets that were using a lot of power and deleted them. Even the clock with weather home screen widget varies a lot in terms of power consumption--you'd be surprised.
