are magnetic closing cases bad?

So I see a ton of these very nice looking leather cases w/ the magnetic close tabs on them, I almost feel as if thats bad for the phone in some way but if that would be true why are there SOOOO many of them being sold and advertised? Am I safe to use one of these cases for my Galaxy S3?? I tried looking all over for a nice leather case with the old style snap button flap or something but they must not use those anymore, lol.

Hi

I got a nice leather case without magnets from a company called Leicke (via amazon)

I can't see how a magnetic catch can not harm compass performance. ..

From past experience yes they are bad, where the magnet was on the case my touch screen quit working. After I took it out of the case it started working just fine again

It all depends where they place a magnet. I tested a few cases for Note 2 with a very small magnet on the side which didn't affect my phone or s-pen performance. But read about other cases with bigger/stronger magnets which did affect the performance.

In general, I would stay away from those. But at the same time, it never hurts to buy something from Amazon, test it out, and if it doesn't work up to your expectations - return it back. With other on-line stores, ebay, or Chinese retailers, it might be harder to return it back.
