Help Are sims a universal size

My wife just got a Tracfone S4. I don't think it has a sim card. She got the phone to replace an old Tracfone LG. Hoping against hope, I am wondering if the LG sim will fit in...and of course work with...the Samsung? Probably not but I thought I'd ask.

Generally they come in three sizes.. Standard, Mini and Nano...

which are the same dimensions regardless of carrier... (eg a T-Mobile mini sim is the same size as a Vodafone Mini sim)

There are different sizes, most use a nano these days. If it's an older phone it may have a micro, which is larger. Pop the SIM drawer, there may be a new one in there. If not, you can pick one up at BB for $1, I've gotten a few from them, I order and select pickup at store so I don't have to wait for Tracfone to mail me one. When you get it you'll have to call (or try online) to get it up and running so she doesn't lose any minutes etc.

The Galaxy S4 will want a micro SIM (the middle size). That was the new size in 2013, when that phone was released, though as Clem notes these days the even smaller nano size is more common.

Ironically the old "standard" is strictly called a "mini SIM". A full-sized SIM is the size of a credit card, but I don't think anyone's made phones that use that since about 1994.

As mentioned above there are different size SIM cards, right now the two popular sizes are micro and nano. Galaxy S4 uses a micro-SIM.

Your LG Tracfone probably uses a micro, or if it's really old it might have a mini-SIM.

There are a total of four SIM card sizes:
Full - not used for a long time
Mini - late 1990s to now, but not very common today.
Micro - late 2000s to now
Nano - 2012 to now
