Astro - Beta program will expire in 2 days

I have just had this too. I wasn't even aware I was using a beta version of Astro!

Anyone have any idea what the deal is? Astro is superb, I'd hate to lose it.

Same here. I went and looked at it in the Market and from all the comments, no one knows what's going on.

Comments on Market are suggesting its an April Fool. I hope so. There is nothing on the developers website at all suggesting a new version is on the way ....

It's a good app and I'll probably buy it if it's a reasonable price but I really don't appreciate that we weren't informed that we were using a beta version that would be shut off at some point. They should have been upfront with that information.

I went ahead and removed it today. Hopefully when the new/live version is ready it will be free, although I may purchase it, don't know yet.

Yeah there is new in market free but it says it is a beta and will expire on 5/31. Whats going on Astro?

As far as I know, Astro File Manager (betas) have always had disclosed expiration dates. For some reason this has become a hot topic as the 3/31 expiration date approaches.

Already switched to Root Explorer but I've always used Astro and its a great program and probably a good idea to make it paid (will piss off a lot of people though!)

Filego is what I just switched to. It's free, and has a great drag and drop interface. If you're going to switch, check it out.

Why are you people switching exactly? Oh no Astro is free and updated, RUN FOR THE HILLS.

was wondering the same thing.... so it has an expiration date, so what? why worry about it until it either stops being free or stops being updated?

Having been bitten when the Locale beta expired without warning (and the release version was overpriced and not as good), I can say that it's smart to have some idea of what the alternatives are if you're using something with an expiration date.

What gets me is that previous versions of Astro, as well as the updated version, all have/had expiration dates, but for some reason the 3/31 expiry version had many people in a panic.

The latest update says 5/31 maybe this changes with every update. Anyways, I don't expect the best file manager in the market to leave us hanging.

Agreed. The Locale thing ticked me off enormously - there was no warning. Just "update available" and BAM! now you pay.

There are more honest, straight-forward ways to do business. And, honestly, when I installed Astro, I do not recall anything saying it was either beta or that it would expire. Not saying it wasn't there - but I'm usually pretty good about noticing that stuff.

Asto is better. I have the same problem. My is expired and it's still working fine. Just when start program it says that the version is expired.
