Is there an app that would let me point my phone at a star and identify it correctly? Living in a major metropolitan area I see few stars but I'd love to know what the ones I can see are called. Price is no object unless it's over twenty bucks.

Stellarium is free. Vortex is the simplest program with most of the info, Mobile Observatory is next.
Sky Safari has all this and more - but it is used more by hardcore dedicated observers with motor driven scopes.
