Does anyone know if the keyboard is backlit?

no its not, but it does house a battery to add life to it.

That stinks. Does the screen illuminate enough to be able to type in the dark? I am typing in the dark now, for example, on my Droid 2...so, I can imagine it will definitely be needed.

it would, depending on what's on the screen and the angle. That being said, it's not good for your eyes to look at a computer screen, when the background lighting is a lot darker, for prolonged periods.

I use mine in low light, it gives off the same amount as a netbook or laptop.

I have to turn the screen brightness up and tilt it forward a little, but it works in pitch dark that way.

PLUS there are handy screen brightness buttons above the number keys, so it's easy to dim again when you tilt it up.
