Asus File Manager Hidden Cabinet breach

Guara

Lurker
Files in the hidden cabinet do not normally show up in file search. After opening a file from within the hidden cabinet, with any app, then closing it, the app retains a link to that file in the Recent Files log for that app. By manually opening the app, the file can then be opened, without getting into the hidden cabinet, by clicking on the file in recent file log, thus creating a security breach of the hidden cabinet.
Has anyone else encountered this problem? If so, is there a fix for it?? Please help!

For non Asus users, what is this "hidden cabinet"? Is it really a separate folder, or just an odd way that the Asus file browser presents hidden files (which are a normal filesystem feature, used as much to reduce visual clutter as anything)?

Either way, if all these files are is hidden, i.e. don't show in the listing by default unless you tell the file browser you want to see them, then this sounds like normal behaviour for any app that keeps a list of recent files. And if you don't want that you'd have to modify all of those apps separately - it's not under the control of the file browser once you have told the other app where they are.

What I'm trying to say is that if this is just a way of talking about regular Linux hidden files (putting a "." at the start of a file or folder name) it's not really a security feature, since any app with a "show hidden files" feature can see them rather than access being actually restricted to one app. If you are just relying on"security through obscurity" then clearing the history of the other app may be all you can do.

It sucks.

But if you have to share your device from time to time, better compress the sensitive files / folders into a password protected ZIP (some files manager apps offer this feature).
