Help ASUS TF101 internal storage amount question...

Hi all. Sorry about the noob question, but I need to confirm something.

I just bought this ASUS tf101, the 32gb version, and received it yesterday. When I looked to the Settings / Storage screen, I see only 12.63gb as the Total Space. Not remaining, but Total.

Unless there is hidden storage somewhere I cannot see, I got the 16gb tablet boxed as a 32gb version. (Refurbished unit...)

I wanted to ask some real owners what do you see when you go to this screen? Does the storage amount at least come close to the advertised amount?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forums, Vanman! Let me move this to the Transformer sub forum so you can get feed back from some of your fellow owners.

Not sure, but thought since it is android, that there would have been a common answer to the question......? Maybe not.....

Either way, still looking for clarity on the storage displayed value vs advertised.

Thanks!

I also have a 32GB TF101 and my Total Storage Space is given as 26.81GB.

I seem to be missing about 5GB.

Maybe it's total "usable" space and the rest is used by the system?

I can move it back if you like. Sorry about that. I wasn't sure how Asus partitioned their memory on their tablets that's why I put your thread here.

As far as I general Android answer, normally a portion of the total memory is saved for the system apps and user apps so not the entire 32 gb is usable. However, if you only have 12 GB for a 32GB system then something is odd.

My bionic only has 8 gbs out of the 16 gbs available for the user but that's how Motorola set their partition for my device. I have a hard time believing that Asus would lock up over half of the memory for system and user apps.

I have the 16gb version and my Total Space is 12.63GB. So definitely looks like you have a 16gb version there.

That too is what I am thinking. Thanks for the reply. Seems to be an ASUS mixup as the box was labeled correctly as a 32gb. I had a hard time with 1/2 the storage being used or hidden, but being a noob with android and tablets, I wanted to be sure about this before requesting a new unit.

You all have been very helpful, thank you so much!

No problem, good call! The question was answered, and perfectly. Thank you. I didnt consider manufacturer specific partitioning, and should have. With computers, I can see partitions, here with android, I cannot.

Yes, only 12gb of 32gb was why I am here and my hunch was correct. I could understand 25 of 32 tops with the OS and apps.

I didnt think that these devices were THAT much different than a real computer but finding the way they do some things are, and this is only the second day with one! More to come.....

Thanks!
