Root [AT&T] About to return hard-bricked gs3 to att. Risks?? Please help me!!!

I successfully rooted my phone today, but while I was installing a ROM (idk which one), upon deleting the cache and rebooting, my phone went black. My GS3 is hard-bricked. It won't turn on, it won't react to being connected to a cable, it won't do ANYTHING. It's straight-up dead.

I took it to ATT and lied about the issue, the guy tried putting in a new battery and it wouldn't turn on, so I am getting a free replacement GS3 this week.

What I wanna know is, can ATT know before-hand if it was rooted/bricked? Like I tripped a trigger alarm or something?

My second question is upon receiving it, will they be able to know it's been rooted? Consequently, if they manage to power it on will they try to find out and what will they do if they do find out?

They will charge my parents $539 if they find out it's rooted. I'm stupid for doing this and regret doing it, but I need to know what is going to happen. Please, PLEASE help me.

They will likely be able to power the device on and yes, they will be able to easily see that it's been rooted. What they do with that information seems to vary. Maybe you'll get lucky...

Next time, try to see if you can get to CWM recovery if you haven't tried it. Or download mode and reflash. The repair guys will probably see that it's been rooted, but they might not do anything to your account thou. Good luck.

I rooted my ATT GS3, it went black and is completely unresponsive/usable now.

ATT is sending me a free one this week since i have the one year warranty and i gotta send mine back.

What I'm wondering is ATT gonna know its rooted/be able to re-activate it and THEN find out it's been rooted, and if so, will they charge me the price of the new phone?

I'm very worried about what's going to happen.

Merged similar threads. Thanks for your understanding :)

As for your situation, if the device is truly hard bricked, then it is unlikely that they will be able to discover that you rooted it. They'll probably do basic tests, and quickly conclude it's dead and send it back to Samsung. Once there, they'll probably refurbish it and send it back to at&t for use as a refurbish replacement.

Well upon finishing the flash, i tapped "reboot system now" and it went black. Since that happened, it's been unresponsive in every way. LED wont come on when charging, wont power on, wont go into recovery mode, not recognized by computer. Nothing.

So im sending it back to ATT and Im extremely scared they'll find out and/or charge me 539...

Sounds like a hard brick. Carriers tend not to bother wasting to much resources into diagnosing hard bricked devices. However it isn't ethical to do this practice because it's essentially fraud.
