I know everyone is always saying bad stuff about our favorite carrier in the US, but I have to give them and Amazon some praise today. I have been with At&t for about 8 years and for the most part have good service in Florida (and Arkansas the last 2 years).
Just before Thanksgiving, I bought a SE X10 from Amazon, my first Android phone coming from a Blackberry Curve. I had bought 2 Blackberries from Wirefly before, but never returned one. After 29 days, I decided to return my X10, it was just too small for me. The experience with Amazon was great, from the first phone call the the last.
I first called a few days ago to inform them I wanted to return the device. The lady was very polite and didn't try to convince me otherwise, sent me a UPS return label within 5 minutes at their expense. I had the package at UPS later that day and 2 days later Amazon had the device. Within 24 hours they had credited my account and contacted At&t to reset my contract date. The 3 or 4 different people I talked with at Amazon were all great, polite and knowledge. I would buy my next device from them (even though I work for a competetor) if they had what I wanted.
Within 3 hours At&t had refunded my "Activation fee" and reset my date. Much better than the last time I returned a Blackberry to At&t in 2005. It took 4 months to get my $400 back then. This time At&t even did it right.
I then got on-line with Best Buy and ordered a Dell Streak for store pickup. The on-line order process and emails were great, the store experience was not so great. First I was met at the door and instructed to go to "in-Store pickup" at Customer Service. After 15 minutes of waiting in line, I was told I was at the wrong place and needed to go to the Mobile section of the store. After 30-40 minutes of paperwork, activation and stuff, I walked out with my new Dell Streak. I wish I had just had it delivered
