AT&T Answers A Question

So when I discovered the Dell phone coming to AT&T was running a proprietary interface and 1.5, I called up AT&T. (My G-1 is unlocked, I'm on AT&T, and we bought a Backflip for my DH)
I said I wanted to give some feedback on their Android offerings, and I was transferred to a Customer Service supervisor.
I explained to her that AT&T was not offering "the latest and greatest" on the released BackFlip and the soon-to-be released Dell, and that my 2 yr old phone was, in most respects, better (save for the camera). And that all the other carriers (Sprint, T-mobile, and Verizon) offered better phones and that if they really wanted to capture this market they were going to have to do better.
The supervisors initial response - and I quote - "Everyone wants an iPhone"
So there we have it folks, the reason AT&T doesn't care about Android, no longer a speculation or a rumor. They said it.

This attitude had alot to do with me leaving At&t. It doesn't seem they are putting any effort into their offerings.

That is there bread and butter. I think AT&T is fearful of losing apple and so doesn't want to make any moves that would piss them off. So that includes not having the latest android phones.

AT&T made a boatload of money thanks to the iPhone and they realize that's there meal ticket.

This is true. But it isn't going to be that way forever and they get further and further behind the curve. What happens when the iPhone bubble bursts on them?

That would require them to think long-term. My experience working at companies medium and large is that many don't look far beyond the present.
