Root [AT&T] Battery Issue

ofyfe

Newbie
I recently got a used S3. Everything seemed okay until after I charged it fully.
The first 20% goes within 45 minutes. Other than that the battery lasts quite a bit. Is there anyway to fix that start though? In one hour it went from 100% to 80% than in 9 hours it only went down 25%. Can anybody help?

Also, just a secondary question, whenever I go to recovery model it says something about the root may be lost, any clue how to fix that?

No custom ROM is installed.

Hello and welcome ofyfe:)
About the battery issue, it just could be you need a new battery considering you bought it used. Did the seller say how old the battery was, or anything about the battery?

And about the root bit, you mention recovery mode?
Perhaps post a screen shot of your "about phone" screen with the details on the android version etc...(not the screen with the IMEI/phone number etc) ;)

If it was rooted, perhaps all you need is the superuser apk from the PlayStore to gain root again.

What model/carrier do you have?

He said the battery lasts about two days.

What's a good app for taking a screen shot?

I have superSU already.

My carrier is ROGERS, model is SGH-I747m

To take a screenshot with the S3, I thing you can press the power and the home button simultaneously, then let go. It's tricky sometimes to do, but yeah;)

All right! Nice job on the screeny

Ok, so here is my 2 cents.
I'd go thru a couple more discharge/recharge cycles and see if the battery drain issue (?) is really an issue at all.
Now, again, my 2 pennies :p --let it discharge to about 20 percent +/-, then recharge.

As far as root, or lost root, it appears you are on the stock rom whether rooted or not I'm not sure, but you say you have SuperSU....
Try downloading "Root Checker" in the PlayStore to see if you have root.

Well it didn't show but I posted back saying I did what you said, it says I have full root access.

Ah, yeah, for some reason it went into moderation queue, but I fixed that for ya:)

Well sweet then...let me ask, do you know what recovery you have?
I would assume the stock recovery if the recovery screen doesn't say something like "TWRP" or "CWM" or perhaps even "safestrap" ?

It's CWM. I tried to flash a Cyanogen mod ROM and it kept not letting me. It was a night or whatever it's called version.

I moved your thread into the AT&T root forum as your device is closely related to that variant.

Anyways, are you on the most current CWM recovery?

I'm not sure, I think so though. I downlaoded it through RomManager

Ah yes, that's the way I updated CWM too until I just updated it thru ODIN but that's a different topic:p

Anyways, just be sure to make a nandroid backup before flashing anything.

So are you downloading the rom via a link that is trusted?
And are you following the posted instructions for flashing the rom?

It just says failed.
I completely forgot about that to be honest!
Yeah it's zipped. I'll give it another go later tonight and I'll post back whether or not I have better luck!

Also, any ROM's you recommend for the S3? Not sure how I feel about Cyanogen I used it on my S2.

Well, not sure if either CarbonRom is available for your variant, but I did find this:
http://androidforums.com/t-galaxy-s...d-4-4-3-4-4-4-aosp-based-d2lte-nightlies.html

And if you want to change recovery to TWRP, see this if you want:
[RECOVERY][d2att] TWRP 2.8.0.1 touch recover… | AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III | XDA Forums

I love TWRP myself, but that's just me:p

Just remember, and I'm sorry if I sound like a broken record, make sure you make a nandroid backup! It will come in handy someday.

Nightlies are newer versions of the stable roms that are put out quite often..sometimes every nite. They usually have some bugs in them but have slightly updated things in the rom from the previous nightly.

I've never been a fan of nightlies as I don't like bugs...I prefer stable builds:)

Edit: for example, see the "Date Added" here for these nightly's:

What's a good app for taking a screen shot?

Just so you know for the future; as long as you have the option enabled in settings you can take a screenshot by sliding the side of your hand from one side of the screen to the other:

Settings >My device >Motion >Palm swipe to capture
(make sure the 'Palm swipe to capture' check-box is checked and that the slider for the whole 'Motion' section is on)

Screenshot will be saved in Device Storage/Pictures/Screenshots by default.

I find it a bit easier than fiddling about with the buttons!
