AT&T FamilyMap

Not sure that this is the right forum to ask, but...anyway.

I was wondering how exactly AT&T FamilyMap service works, more specifically how can they manage to enable GPS on my device remotely ? Is there a special app? What about non-android devices?

They seem to claim that all devices with GPS are supported by this services, meaning that there is an API which allows the carrier to turn on/off my GPS on ANY phone remotely?

no, at&t does NOT have any control of the GPS on your phone. you are the one who has to turn the GPS on and off.

family map will work with and use the FamilyMap App on smart phones that have this capability, not all devices will work. Also it uses the cell network to track where you are at. if you put the phone in airplane mode, but leave the GPS on, you can NOT be tracked on the family map.

GPS is a one way receive service, there is no transmit.
