at&t galaxy note 4 make my phone better!

Chris78h

Lurker
I recently purchased two used galaxy note 4 phones, one is locked to at&t and supposidely the other is unlocked. Both have all the usual at&t junk and apps on them. I'm just looking for general information, and tips for how to clean them up and make them more usable. I'm coming from an iphone 5c.

I switched because I got tired of them, file management and photo management was a pain and I couldn't add photos to the phone. The phone was simplistic and easy to use but filled up fast when taking photos.

Anyway, so i'm looking to make my phones better, easier to use. One huge put off was all the advertising on these, and all the apps pre-installed that I can't get rid of. Its a real chore browsing through the play store, I don't know whats good and what to steer clear of. I'm just looking for some broad suggestions, trusted sites that have good info on apps, or some basic stuff I should do off the bat?

Make sure you're set with Gmail account first.
The 1 app to definitely use is the Google Photos app, this holds 15gb of photo storage in the cloud and will save every photo you'll ever take.
Just make sure to sync it in it's settings.
You can also try different launchers, which controls your home screen, icons, etc... The one I recommend is Nova launcher prime.

Just to comment on your disdain of the Play Store, there are some reputable sites that allow you to manually install apps of your own choosing (referred to as 'sideloading') but taking into consideration you're still just getting used to Android it might not be best for you to patronize any of them. At this point you really should get accustomed to the Play Store. It is very advisable you DO NOT install any apps you just randomly download from miscellaneous sources. Stick with apps directly from the Play Store, there are simply too many security issues involved, especially until you get a better feel for what you do and don't want on your phone. There's certainly no 100% guarantee that everything you install from the Play Store will be safe but the odds are much better you won't.

Danny, I'll check out google photos, i think it was pre-installed anyways. I was thinking about a launcher too.

svim, thats what I was thinking, just wanted to know what reliable trusted sites were out there that reviewed apps, etc, so I could know what i'm getting in the play store.

Thanks for the tips!

I would get BK Disabler

It is a package disabler that does not require root.

You can then go through and disable all the AT&T stuff

Nova Launcher is Great!
