Root [AT&T] Gs3 custom rom

Newbie
I have the at&t s3 and I'm wanting to install a custom rom I can't find a lot of information about it but I'm really looking for one that maybe has the s4 gestures if possible and no problems.. Maybe something highly themed and I also can't seem to find cwm recovery if someone would be helpful to provide some links for me that would be awesome. Thank you

i just use ROM Manager from the Play Store to install and upkeep CWM.

as for a custom ROM, i just started using Intergalactic 3.0, it's based off official ATT 4.1.2, and has SOME new TouchWiz stuff, like multi-window. gesture stuff that the S4 has, i haven't seen that in this particular ROM.

and there's not any S4 ports to the S3 yet.

So I can just download rom manager and install cwm? Seems simple enough. And as for the rom I'm wanting something themed a lot kinda like my s2 where I have the blue ftw annihilation rom. Is there anything close to that?

kernels are built in with custom ROMs.

now there's the option of using a "third-party" kernel. but you would have to check around to see if it's compatible with the custom ROM you're using.

So the only thing I need to do is find the rom I want and download it and get rom manager and install cwm recovery and flash the rom and follow the instructions for the rom correct?

that is it.

if you've never flashed a custom ROM tho, there's some standard steps to take every time.

once you've boot into CWM:
* backup nandroid
* wipe cache/factory reset
* wipe cache
* wipe dalvik cache
* flash ROM
* wipe cache again (optional)
* wipe dalvik cache again (optional)
* reboot

I have done custom roms on other phones just not the s3. I've done the s2 on boost and prevail and an HTC evo... I was just double checking so I don't do anything wrong. Thank you very much for the helpful information.

I can't seem to get cwm to install that way.. Would the method on galaxys3root.com work? I'm not rooted just stock and I'm on 4.1.2.

once you're rooted, you can use the ROM Manager app to install CWM. but most of the root tutorials will have you install CWM anyways.

i'm not familiar with any of the current root methods. i've had my phone for just over a year now, and it's been rooted since the day i got it. :P

Okay got twrp recovery installed.. I was looking at that rom I don't know if I will like the layout.. I was looking at detmobilized and goodness reborn and they look pretty nice and customizable. I might try one of those first.

I've heard many good things about deTmobilized. I'd start there.

Dan just went through a horrific car accident and came out redoing his ROM. I haven't tried the new version.
