Root [AT&T] HTC One X - Cannot select options in HBOOT?

First of, thank you for taking the time to attempt to provide help!

Okay! So, when I boot, it boots into the HBOOT menu, rather than my stock Jellybean ROM, from ATT. I was going to change to CM10.1 RC5 today, because something is wrong with my down volume button. I don't think it is hardware, but it is a possibility (my brother DID have my phone w/o permission last night, lol). Anyways, I downloaded my CM zip, and copied it to the SD card, but now I've realized that I can't select the recovery option in HBOOT! It does nothing when I press the power button after moving to "Recovery". This is strange, furthermore, because USUALLY the volume UP makes you go UP in the menu, right? Well it goes down for me. The DOWN does nothing. And Neither does the POWER apparently.

I would love to have some feedback, and possible advice for a solution.

**Also, it's important to mention that TAMPERED and UNLOCKED show in the HBOOT menu, and that when I boot into my "stock" rom, it does so in SAFE MODE, so I can't use any of my content (like Clockwork Rom Manager) to try to fix some problems!**

Thanks,
Anthony

Sounds like the volume button is well and truly goosed, sorry. :(

You boot in to safe mode by holding the - volume button down right the way through the boot process so if yours is booting in to safe mode all the time, it sounds as though something's jammed somewhere.

Does it click/move when you press it?

>///< Oh my gosh. Thank's for the response! It does click, and does not appear to be physically pressed or sticky. I've pressed it and used my nail to (very lightly) edge the volume rocker, nothing seemed strange.

Could software help me at all? Is there a way to get into recovery, by way of a computer, and some file flashing? I booted into the rom in the interim, and have wiped everything besides stock apps, just to be safe (have backed up everything and have no remorse lol).

Thanks for the links. Nice sites. I've opened it up, and I can't discern anything out of the usual. I shorted the connection for the down button, and it actually worked on the HBOOT screen. Thinking it was just that then, I tried pressing the UP volume too. It still went down! There is nothing wrong with my buttons. If anything, it would be with the down volume, but just because I poked at it :l

So is there a way, perhaps, to install recovery and boot into it without having to use the buttons on the phone or the phone at all?
