At&t smartphone minimum data plan

I am interested in the Sony Ericcson Vivaz smartphone with the Pay As You Go plan, but only want it for the camera. I don't plan on web browsing or texting. Can I simply purchase a $5 data plan and use the phone without refilling the data plan within month? How much data is needed per phone call? I currently have my internet disabled on my account, do I need to enable it to use a smartphone?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I can't help with the pre-paid plans, if they don't force you to have a data plan, you should be ok.

A "phone call" doesn't use data, in a traditional service plan, you have phone minutes, text and data. Data only is for web browsing, email, apps that use data (news feeds, google maps, weather, etc). If the device is wifi capable, the data used on wifi also is NOT counted on the data plan and the device can access wifi without a sim card or anything else.

I don't see why in the prepaid world that you can't use load minutes and not use a data plan, but that is outside my area of knowledge.

I believe you should be able to just transfer the SIM (assuming its a PAYG SIM) and put it in the smartphone. I would call and ask AT&T.
