Root [AT&T] Troubleshooting failed CM10.1 Flash

I need a little help troubleshooting a failed CM10.1 flash. I'm somewhat new to android, but read as much as possible before attempting to flash a custom ROM. I rooted my phone using my Mac and installed Clockworkmod Recovery. I had created a backup and stored it on my external SD card. I also, (to be safe) ran titanium backup and stored my files in Dropbox. I then downloaded the correct CM10.1 .zip file from GooManager along with the correct version of GApps and flashed the files to my device. I watched the process and everything seemed to install smoothly, with the 'installation complete' prompts. Upon reboot, I thought everything was great because the Cyanogenmod logo was loading on the screen, but then my phone showed "Unfortunately, Setup Wizard has stopped." It doesn't proceed from there.

I can get my device into Recovery mode, but when I attempt to restore from the backup I created on my external sd card, I receive "Error mounting /external_sd!" and when attempting just the factory restore, I receive a "No Files found" prompt.

Anyone have any advice on how to fix this??

Did you try to install the latest version of cm 10.1?

If so, you need to flash an updated boot loader first. This is new from the last 2 weeks.

Here are links for AT&T
Use Odin to flah ( or whatever the Mac equivalent is )

Next, which version of cwm are you using? I found most older ones did not work properly reading sd cards. Either that, or the sd card is the wrong format.
If its not fat32, it may not work.

Backup your backup to your Mac, just to be safe as well, it's always nice to have it in two spots.

I hope this helps

I forgot to add, make sure before you try flashing again to do a full wipe, and then in advanced options clear your dalvik cache

Cheers

what exactly does the bootloader do?

i was able to flash CM10.1 RC2 just fine without doing this.

do i have to flash CM10.1 RC2 again, or just flash the bootloader with my current setup?
You only need to flash the new bootloader if you want to use the current versions of cm10.1
If you enjoy rc2 and want to continue using it, you're fine.

On another note, you can't flash the new bootloader with cwm, or twrp. You need to flash it with Odin. Mobile Odin won't work either...

Once flashed, your rc2 will still work fine, but you will then have the ability to flash newer versions of cm

To check to see if the flash worked, you can download root checker for free, and it will tell you what version your bootloader is. Fr the AT&T phone you want it to end with lk3
For canadian versions you want it to end in lk4

Cheers

This was it! I didn't see the updated bootloader before trying to flash the latest CM10.1.

As far as the cwm not reading the sdcard, I'm not really sure what was going on there. I am using the latest cwm version, but I need to check which format the card is in.

I flashed a rooted stock firmware from Odin to get the phone running again and will try the new bootloader with CM10.1 when I give it another try. Thanks for the link!

I'm glad that worked out for you, let us know how cm10.1 works for you. I loved it when I used it!
