AT&T :)

Good job moderators !.. I really don't get the hate that AT&T seems to get all the time.. It's really only about 5 years old, and is more SBC Global than the original AT&T.. but whatever.. Want a little feel good about the big bad corporation that so many love to hate ? .. The company and it's employees donate not only to numerous charities, but also do numerous community projects (planting trees, working with the elderly, xmas packages for the less fortunate.. etc..).. The company has also brought thousands of customer service jobs back to the US, and they will keep coming as customer satisfaction improves.. but people who want to just jump on the "they suck" train just because that's what is popular to say, definitely don't give the company incentive to continue to bring the jobs back... I have no problem with people complaining about bad experiences.. that's fair.. but really a whole lot of complaining is done by people who have not even been customers.. and that's just stupid.. It also turns minor problems into "oh my god" problems, as well as makes people expect things to suck when they do have a problem.. sad really, as I can guarantee the employees at AT&T don't want you to have a problem, and actually do want to help you.. With technology, some problems are harder than others.. give em a break.

Yea well said. I might be finding out first hand soon. I moved near my job and Verizon doesnt have as good coverage compared to where I was at before. Ppl I hang out with at work have T Mobile, Sprint and AT&T.

The T Mobile one already said they dont get good reception at work. I need to pick the other two brains and see whats up. I may have to go to Sprint or AT&T. I was leaning towards Sprint until this damn phone was announced...lol

I can think of another area it doesnt have as good coverage too. Yea, believe it or not Verizon doesnt have the best coverage everywhere.

I believe i have seen it with my own eyes people just buy into the hype that is verizons network and spew it like its gospel

If you had the unlimited data plan, you get to keep it. I started a new contract after the new plans were released and I kept it. The oly way you can loose it is if you decide to go down to the 200MB plan or the 2GB plan or if you want tethering. If you don't change and always keep the data plan, it will be granfathered into your next contract.

Yep, I've upgraded twice with unlimited and continue to have it. It's one reason I do a "walk in" for buying my phones (the online systems generally don't have a clear keep-your-existing-unlimited plan option).

For the record, there's still some kind of cap on unlimited and the language is a little vague, but basically AT&T retains the right to stop you from using "excessive bandwidth". I would assume that's something over 2GB, maybe even 3GB.

I've never gone over 1GB, even when OOT for a week and me and the wife both tethering notebooks via the AP.

There's no cap on the unlimited plan. Multiple times I've gone over 5GB and a few times I've gone over 10GB and never heard anything from AT&T. There's a topic on macrumors where someone went over 20GB and all AT&T did was send a letter letting him know about the wifi hotspots they provide.

It is a soft cap basically. If one consistently uses, say 10GB/month or more, AT&T may refuse them as a customer but this is rarely done.

I've heard people saying there's a soft cap but I've never heard anyone say that AT&T cut off their data service. Have you heard of anyone saying that AT&T cut them off?

Well I got fd lol they told me when I upgraded I couldn't keep it

Depending on how long ago it was, you might be able to call AT&T support and say along the lines "The Store rep screwed something up and now I don't have unlimited data any more."

I say this only because it actually DID happen to me when I bought my Captivate. I had unlimited and the store rep dropped me to 2GB. I called support pitching a fit and they gave me a thousand apologies and added unlimited back.

I actually got it back a few days ago there's a thread here. Unlimited data kid

Yes, actually. AT&T terminated their contract because of excessive data usage. This happens to very, very few people but these were people who would sit and stream HD video to their phone and use it as their only internet connection (they didn't tether though).

lol Stay away from Sprint haha

If you get T-mobile, I believe most of their androids phones currently reeased(mytouch 4g, G2, defy) and any soon to be released android will all have wi-fi calling

That is it's biggest advantage for me as far as these phones go because I literally have perfect calling as long as I am near a wi-fi and in your office/work or whatever, maybe you have wi-fi so you dont have to worry about texts/pic mail, email, or phone calls :)

But Stay away from Sprint lol...Tmobile 1st, at&t second, sprint NEVER haha

The thread went a bit OT and moved away from the Atrix. Just to keep it clean, I've put AT&T related posts into one thread and move it to the AT&T thread. If you want to go back to the Atrix thread, here you go.

Actually being completely fair I never even thought about the fact that I had a foreign sounding person answer the phone with at&t.

With that said.. Keep in mind that some people do like to join the hype train.. but, some of us have legit reasons to not be happy with at&t.

I give them credit where credit is due.. the only time I ever had a problem with voice calls was when my phone was 5 years old and had been dropped an infinite amount of times in a finite time span.

They have great voice and text service.

Where I start to find I have a dislike for them is they really, really need to come out with a better pricing system on data. I understand tiered data is there for a reason.. and I understand data on a phone is a luxury..

However, their data service can range from mediocre to horrible. Even in 3g areas with almost full bars.. I've seen friends and relatives consistantly get 300 kbps down with like 500 ping.

And while this is a problem on all carriers.. I really wish at&t would kind of spearhead getting cheaper data rates or a "family data plan".

Hell to be honest I'm in wifi area's 90% of the time anyway..

If I had some sort of "rollover" data I could probably have a gig of data stored up within a few months extra to "fall back on" if I needed.

I realize data and things like that are a luxury.. but, as the future movies closer and closer towards us.. progress is usually made on getting tech cheaper.

Instead the price has gone up.. what was 30$ for "5 gigs soft cap" is now 25$ for less than half with a hard cap.

I realize at&t has gotta make money.. but, I think there has got to be some "mid way point" at&t can meet people with family plans..

I think of it in terms of text tbh.. a text cost a 10th of a penny last time I checked.. overages are 10 cents.. thats 1000% profit. (I don't remember the exact stats but, it was something along those lines)

I imagine data is a little more expensive to them.. but, for everyone in a family of 5 to have data is 5 X 15 = 75 for 200mb each.

Or 5 *25 = 125$ a month.. for 2 gigs each.

They can give an entire family unlimited text for 30$ a month when its normally 20$ a person.. which would be 100$ a month for every individual line to have texting on the account.

I could be wrong but, I think 50$ for 1 gig a month for everyone in the family would be pretty fair.

1 gig is more than enough for my parents who aren't responsible enough to manage wifi but, don't use their phones hardly at all.

And more than enough for my brothers and I who could rack up 4 gigs if we tried but, are responsible enough to use wifi.

Could be both.

I think location may have something to do with it simply because if you have some towers that are less used who cares if people hit 10gb every month there if its a relatively isolated happening.

On the other hand.. in an area that has more demand you could interfere with other customers service a lot easier.

Although I'm sure how badly you go over has a play in it too..

even if you have a tower to yourself they prob don't want to lose money in someone doing 100 geebees in bandwidth by themself.

Yea I would have to agree the combination of data traffic/ load and usage with proximity to towers etc all goes into the decision
