Audio alerts

On previous ‘S’ models, I could set a different alert sound for email, sms, WhatsApp.
I have set sounds many times, but they all then default back to same tone.
Is there some unusual way to set the sounds on S9 or current OS.

Previously could just select sound from within each app.

Is it possibly linked to the ‘messages app’ handling things differently.

It's there, just more sub screens to get it done. Open apps and notifications from your settings, find your app, choose notifications, t ap on the bell icon, choose advanced, sound, then navigate to the folder that the sound resides in and choose it.
