Help Audio distortion when streaming to HiFi only on Android devices

Hiya, I recently bought one of these:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Neet®-Wireless-Receiver-wireless-streaming/dp/B00O0U37HO

...to stream audio to the aux input on my HiFi without the losses associated with Bluetooth. This works really well from a PC using ITunes. When using either a Galaxy S3 or a Note 10.1 2014 edition, and a variety of different player apps I get a crackly distortion on the beat (even on low volumes on both the player and hi fi amp). It doesn't happen on all tracks but enough and sounds like it could blow my speakers.

Any suggestions welcome, plain English though please as not to tech savvy. Tried a replacement device, different hifi, different players to no avail, seems to correlate with Android.
Thanks!
Sean.

Not familiar with that NEET box, but it sounds like a nice unit. The Amazon page mentions that a DNLA music streaming app is required for use with Android. My "shot in the dark" suggestion would be to check the app's settings and see if it has any adjustment for output level (i.e., volume, or loudness). From your description, it sounds like you are overdriving your Hifi system, and that could very well be the cause. If there is no such setting, see if you can find another app that does.
