audio problem when connecting to stereo

When I connect my HTC Inspire to a home stereo receiver using a chord that has a headphone jack on one end and has red and white ends on the side that connects to the stereo my google listen app will randomly start playing, the music app will shuffle after 30 seconds of play, voicedialer will activate at times and if i have doubletwist installed on the phone it will start playing. i can only use standard headphones for the audio to work correctly....any ideas? i have rhapsody and would love to listen to it through an amplified sound.

The cable doesn't seem to be the problem. I'm experiencing the same problem with my Inspire too. I noticed that with this adapter plugged in, the headset icon comes up instead of the headphone icon. I have no idea yet if it determines this by sensing the input impedance of the stereo or some other way. Either way, for whatever reason, it seems to have these problems because it thinks it's connected to a headset.

update: I'm a bonehead. My RCAs were plugged into the Phono input instead of the "CD" input right next to it on my receiver. That's what I get for hooking this up in the dark.

That said, I still need to be careful with how I hook things up, or the phone senses a headset plugged in instead of the "headphones". If I plug the phone in before I turn on the receiver, it seems to show the "headphone" icon, but if I plug in after the receiver is on, or if I mess with the cord after it's plugged in, I get the "headset" icon. It must sense the impedance to figure out what's plugged in.

In either configuration, the output voltage is very low, and requires me to crank the snot out of the receiver.
