Audiobooks

Amazon is offering me 2 for free. Back in the Pocket PC era I noticed there where at least 2 distinct types out there, straight narration and narration juiced up with sound effects. Is there a standard now, and what's it like?

Personally I liked the narration with sound effects. What's your preference?

I prefer to read. I can't say I've ever listened to an audio-book with the possible exception of maybe something ibn the radio...

Audiobooks are nothing like Old Time Radio shows. They last, and last, and last, and last...

The Audiobooks I listened to took days to finish. Good OTR is an hour tops unless it's a serial.
