Can someone try this and let me know the results...
On your Intercept turn on auto-brightness...
Menu, Settings, Display, Brightness, put a check mark in Automatic Brightness, and click OK.
Do your hardware button lights turn off and not come back on?
My two Intercepts do this. Even in a totally dark room the hardware button lights will not light.
As soon as I turn Automatic Brightness off, the hardware button lights come back on.
