Help Auto brightness will never settle

I will be sitting in the same room, no change in surrounding light and when auto brightness option is enabled, the screen will vary in brightness level every minute or so, and never settle, ever.

I have just deactivated it, but would really like to be able to use this feature.

What may the problem be?
 
Mine tends to auto-set itself to rock bottom illumination, even when I have it in performance mode. I'm unhappy as well.
 
IMO the auto-brightness feature stinks on EVERY android device I've ever seen.

It is a battery waster IMO and with ICS it is so much easier for me to just hit up the notification window and move it if/when the situation calls for it
