Help Auto-dimming annoyance

Got my S5 on Friday, and only noticed this today. One thing did change is that on Monday, I got a case and a holster...

Take the phone out of the holster, it lights up without having to hit a key (auto-awake?). But if I unlock it and while using the phone, if my finger hovers near the top, where the light sensor is (near the speaker), it goes dark (as-in, it goes off).

For the life of me, I don't know why it's doing this and how to turn it off or adjust the sensitivity. I've turned-off "Smart-stay", and auto brightness, but nothing will keep this from happening. If I go to open the notifications, since I move my finger to the right of the speaker (upper-right hand corner), it'll go black and then appear, but it goes black as I'm attempting to swipe-down. Very annoying.

The reason it does this is that there's a sensor up near the top so that when you put your phone to your ear...it turns off the screen and you don't waste battery life while talking. That's the reason for it...but I do agree that it's a little too sensitive. It really doesn't bother me a ton...but every once in a while it does do that and it's annoying but I don't know if there's a setting to tweak it.

The only reason that sensor should work is when your in a call. If you not in a call you should be able to put your finger over that sensor all you want.

I would turn off smart stay.

Also I know the Air-Wake shouldn't have anything to do with putting the phone back to sleep..but maybe check that out too. Turn it off (if its even on) to check.

Settings > Accessibility > Dexterity > AirWake

I may have had Smart Stay enabled once at some point, but had since turned it off.

Thinking more about it last night, I only rebooted the phone once since getting it, and it was the morning of the day that I started having this problem. Rebooted it this morning and now it's back to normal. I can put my finger over the sensor and it doesn't turn off the screen.

I wonder if some of the various screen/display settings don't really kick-in until after a reboot? Now of the two dozen tweaks I made prior to rebooting today, I wonder which one actually did the trick.
