Automatic Brightness when Charging?

Is Locale the only app that will allow me to put the screen to full brightness and never timeout when plugged in?

I know i can keep the screen on by checking the box under development, but whatever the screen timeout is set to, the screen will dim to minimum brightness in that time and go back bright when you touch the screen again.

I just want something that notices I'm plugged in, turns the screen brightness up and sets the screen to never timeout, and then goes back to some default or the original settings when I unplug, and I prefer not to spend the ridiculous $10 for locale to do it.

I have been using a profile app to quickly set these values but my problem is i jump up from the computer and grab the phone and FORGET to go back to my normal profile!

You could try 'Screebl Lite' free from the market. It keeps the screen alive when using the phone. I dont use this but from the sounds of it is pretty cool. I use 'toggle screen timeout' one press for on 2nd press back to default which will be no good for you cause you will forget to set it back to default

thanks for the reply. i use screebl and I love it, you should check it out. As long as you are holding the device within a certain range of angles, which you can define, the screen will stay on, and when the phone is oriented outside the angles, it will turn off after the defined screen timeout. Perfect for having a short screen timeout without turning off when you are actually using the device. The angles that are out of bounds are meant to be horizontal and vertical, so when the phone is sitting on a table or lap, or vertical in a holster or pocket, would be out of bounds and allow the phone to turn off.

Unfortunately, it doesn't solve this problem. Since it allows the screen to turn off when horizontal, like on a table, then it would let the screen turn off when I'm charging it at work and its on my desk.

The screen turning off isn't the real issue, since you can change this in settings to keep the screen on when plugged in. I do this and let screebl automatically disable itself when plugged in (it has this option in the settings). My annoyance is when plugged in, the screen doesn't stay bright after the timeout, nor does it adjust and get brighter on its own when plugged in.

On WindowsMobile, there is a setting for screen brightness for both on battery and on ac power. So you can have your phone go to a different brightness when plugged in and it will stay that way, and go back to your set value for battery brightness when unplugged. I guess i've just grown used to this after 5 years with different WinMo phones. You can also adjust screen timeout for when plugged in and when on battery. I use my phone on the table a lot at work but the overhead lights are bright so i want the screen brighter.

i guess i'm just going to have to cough up for locale or start remembering to turn the brightness back down when i unplug from usb.

I use the Power Manager app to do that. It allows custom settings for things like screen brightness based on a variety of different triiggers (e.g., battery level, or USB connected, or WiFi on, or keyboard open, etc.).

Locale will do the same as Power Manager, but can also change profiles based on location. Works a treat for me.

meh locale is $10 and only half works for location switching where I would use it. there are free apps for time switching too. but thanks.

power manager mentioned above does what I want and better than locale too. the screen doesn't need to be turned off and on for the brightness changes to taske effect.
