Average life span of phone running GPS?

Realistically speaking, how long does a phone last on full charge with only running GPS? I plan to do a 100 mile bike ride tomorrow and I wanted to use MyTracks to track it. I plan to shut off wifi, bluetooth, mobile data, and turn brightness super low for the few times I do look at it to check battery level.

My intention is to be on the road for 8-9 hours, with a solid 45 minutes or so for lunch/break in the middle. I'm hoping that'll be enough time to sit in a Subway with an AC outlet nearby and give the phone another boost of battery power.

Think I can get through the whole day like this? Or am I asking for too much?

If I use Maverick on my HTC Sensation for recording my track (phone at stand by, WiFi on, mobile data on) my battery goes down 20% per hour.

Nice, nice... I might be in luck then as long as I can squeeze in a decent noon-time charge...

I wish I had some sort of gizmo to run against my rear wheel and make enough energy to charge a USB device.

You can probably go all day without having to charge it. I have gps on all the time with many apps running in the background and at night it will still have 10-40% battery left, (all matters on how much I use the internet and games). Some good apps to get if you're worried are Juice Defender and Advance Task Manager, But it all depends on your battery and phone. I wouldn't be too worried about your phone, especially if you're going to keep your phone locked during most of your ride. If you don't think that your battery will last all the way, there are products that you can charge and plug your phone into it and charge your phone, like an extra battery. I don't know how much they cost but if you're curios about it. Here's something cool you can build if you have some spare time or just for the furture. I don't have that because I only hike with my phone ;)

But I have a mobile charger with a build-in battery.
JustMobile Gum Pro, 4400mAh and 130 grams light.
Charges my phone two times :)

If, after a full charge, you switch on GPS and MyTracks, and you switch off mobile data and put the phone in Airplane Mode (no phone or WiFi transmissions) then your battery will last you comfortably through the day.

You can switch Airplane Mode off during lunch while the phone is being charged (assuming you can) and make phone calls that won't eat into your battery charge. Added benefit: the topping up of your battery won't take long, because it wasn't drained much.

But if you make or answer phone calls, or send/receive texts while you're riding, or use any other apps, all bets with regard to battery life are off, of course.

Have a nice day!

BTW, there's a nice free app, Glympse (in the Market), that you might appreciate. It's more for cars, trains and medium distance bike rides rather than for very long bike rides, imo, but you be the judge.
Glympse tracks you via GPS and let's you send a message with a link to someone else's phone number (SMS) or email address. If they click that link a dynamic, LIVE map will open in their webbrowser displaying your position and progress.
The beauty of Glympse is two-fold: that its sessions expire after 4 hours maximum (easily extendable by tapping), and that you can only be tracked by the people with that link for that session. Which you just sent them. :D
When you close the Glympse app the tracking (session) is shut down too.

Of course Glympse will eat into your battery life! Which is why it's most useful in car rides, imho, when the phone is on the charger.

I like juice defender... However it wouldn't have much use here I wouldn't think.... After all, juice defender starts up mobile services every so often to save battery in between. but on my case they would be totally shut off from the beginning.
