OK so let me start with the obvious - they were free and thus pretty awesome. I mean compared to the cheapo crap that is oft boxed with our expensive pocket computers - these are the best I've seen in a while.
So you all probably know that and think similar.
Sadly though to be objective and because I'm an opinionated cantankerous old man I do have type my mind.
I would never buy these things. not for the list price, not for 50% off. Well maybe for 50% off.
looks - they look the part. Half of what you pay for with the B&O name on any device they sell is the style/build of the product. $12000 TV - yes it looks great even when off but it's way over priced.
Ergonomics - I have to say they are the best or next to best fitting and finish Earbuds I have ever used. Now my reference here is Shure Ec3's that are from about 10 years ago. They are what's called concert monitors. A few other companies now make something similar and Shure has made some improvements. Cost comparison - I paid close to 140 for them in 2005. They provide 27Db of noise blocking, while being comfortable and full range and dynamic sound. Their newer line is about the same price today but offers better drivers.
Features - These have a circuit in with buttons and microphone which works pretty well. YOu can control the volume directly from the button fob - and you can play/pause your media with it. If you can press quick enough you can also change tracks. Likewise it will pick up calls if you press the middle. All in it's a good feature for a mobile headset. Sound quality in the call is good on the receiving side but from what I've noticed output of the microphone is dampened or something. on 2 of 3 calls the other person had trouble hearing me, I am however sick so perhaps there is more to that.
Sound quality - fantastic for what they are. solid bass with clear highs for something so small. As I said before they are easily some of the best earbuds you could listen to - and at the same be are comfortable enough to want to listen to them. A very good fit for the qualities of the V20.
Major nit - the cabling is too thin. I say that mostly due to longevity of the device and it's use - I could see a good snag or 2 damaging the wires inside and making it useless. Maybe 2 gauges thicker wire and another coating would be nice. If only to improve that quality build feel. I will admit again though I am prejudiced due to my use of cans like Shure's, Grado's and some others they all have thicker cables.
