Help back up instaled apps that arent in play store

hello i have 2 question:

im new to android, i was on iphones for ever. my nexus 5 is rooted, what happens if a new os comes out 4.4.something else. will this cause a problem because my phone is rooted?

what happens if i have apps that dont come from playstore?

As your rooted, you will have to either revert to stock and unroot your phone to get the OTA update if and when it comes out, or wait for a new rom to be released that is based on the new firmware version.

you can install an app called Astro file manager https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.metago.astro which lets you create backups of (most of) your installed apps, or as your phone is rooted try Titanium backup to backup everything on your phone and create a nandroid backup as well.
