Help Background apps in the notification bar are being shut down

Hi,

The title kind of says it all. When I'm using my phone, I'll randomly see an app start in the notification bar when it had previously been running.

I'm not running any task manager. In the os (4.0.4) there is a task manager button in the app switching screen when I hold down the home button, but as far as I can see there's no option to automatically end apps.

Does anyone have any ideas?

The only option I know of that automatically shuts down apps is Settings > developer options > do not keep activities. It's worth seeing if that's on.

Thanks for the idea, but unfortunately that wasn't checked. Nothing in the developer options has been changed except for USB debugging (phone is rooted and running TitaniumBackup)

Do you mean that something in the "ongoing" section of the notification bar suddenly disappears and starts back up again?

If so, which app is it? It might just be a problem with that specific app unless it happens to more than one.

Hi. Yes it's the ongoing section and it's more than one app

This might be something you need to speak to your ROM developer about, or post in the all things root section within this forum to see if anybody else who uses the same ROM as you can help.

I haven't seen any reports of this happening using stock software.

Thanks, if I can't work it out today I'll try that.

I did notice that the amount of free ram was dropping to around 60mb so I guess this could be the cause.

That's what I'm starting to suspect, shame the international version only has 1 GB of ram. Thanks everyone :)
