Help Background data disabling w/ICS?

It appears that we cannot simply hit a check box like before to limit background data in ICS & you have to set a data limit to do it?! Stupid since some of us (myself included) have unlimited data.

Any way to remove the warning icon in the top bar that won't go away while you have background data disabled?

What is this warning icon? I just turned mobile data off to see, and I'm not getting any warning.

Can't you just make a smart action that will disable background data?

You can set it for a specific time (24/7) or at a specific battery level.

And when the SA is done, it doesn't re-enable background data. I've given up on this working for now. Hopefully an update to SA will fix it.

It will re-enable background data if you have a SA called "All on" that you created previous to the one that turns it off for certain hours of the day and/or based on battery life.

Essentially, you create a SA called "All on" that enables background data, turns on Bluetooth & WiFi and anything else you want on by default. A second SA, "Extend Battery" (a self-made SA that in this example disables background data when the battery is below 50%) gets created. It can also disable Bluetooth.

When the battery reaches >50% again, "Extend Battery" will shut off and the default "All on" SA will come back on, thus enabling background data.

That orangle triangle with exclamation point means data is turned but the data connection has dropped. I found best way to fix is to shut down, remove sim card. Reinsert sim and reboot.. if you are disabling mobile data and no wifi connection is present that triangle will be there with no way to remove it. Its there by default..

Not what the user is talking about. It's a white triangle for background data. The orange triangle means no sim card/service. I there is ni way to remove the notification for restricted background data if you are turning it off

From my experience the triangle only comes up if you turn off background sync. If you just turn off data it doesn't come up. And it's background sync that SA cannot turn back on, if you have another SA set to do specifically that.

How would I have turned off background data? I keep getting that notification, but when I actively get on my phone and go to notifications it goes away. I don't know how it started but I do know that it was never present before I upgraded to ICS.

Thanks for any help.

I don't have time to go app by app every time. Is this really what they are making us do now? Time to call & email with complaints.

I had to do this but it doesn't really matter (at least on my phone) because some of the apps that I have...such as youtube which I never use....still use background data even though it's restricted. Some of my apps use more background data than "regular data" when I use it (meaning regular mobile data OR over WiFi) and when I asked Verizon about it they couldn't explain either of these things.
