Help background sync turned off, but phone still trying to sync?

I turned off background syncing, since I don't really need it to happen multiple times per day, but the phone is still trying to sync. Does anyone know what's going on?

I'm running Android version 4.0.4, build number: IMM76D.I747UCALH9

If any additional information is needed, please let me know!

Where did you turn background sync off?

How do you see it is trying to sync?

from the home screen, I tapped the menu button, went to settings, accounts and sync, and turned it off at the top right. I see the sync icon in the notifications bar across the top, and when I pull down the notifications shade, it says it's syncing.

Have you done that for all accounts you have?

no, there's a toggle up at the top that I assumed would turn it off in general without having to turn them all off. I don't want to turn off sync permanently, I just don't need it syncing as often as it has been.

I could be wrong, but I believe that you Google account (gmail, contacts, calendar) on the device syncs seperately. If I am correct, you would need to disable autosync for your Google account on your device

There are many Apps that will Sync other than those listed under the Sync option. Weather Apps, News Apps, Facebook (if notification are turned on), Twitter and such. You may have to turn them off within the App if it will let you.

It seems to be my contacts, so i guess i have to turn that off separately. thanks.

It's AT&T's address book sync, I had the same issue, it kept trying to sync every so many minutes and kept failing. Go to contacts, click the menu button (bottom left button) scroll down to settings select AT&T Address book uncheck auto sync contacts.
