Backing up apps to SD card

Hello. I have a Droid Eris, and in preparation for the impending firmware update, I am trying to back up my apps to an SD card. I downloaded AppMonster and noted that 2 free and 1 paid app are marked 'protected'. I proceeded to 'Backup' and noted those 3 did not back up. How can I get the paid app to save to an SD card? It is the Pure Calendar Widget.

Thanks folks!

I did some more reading on the forums, and it would appear that Market *should* recognize apps that were installed on the previous firmware version once you upgrade to a newer firmware version. Can anyone confirm?

*I do not mind having to reinstall apps, I just don't want to re-pay for apps.
