I have been following the instructions on cyanogenmod forum and xda developpers but unfortunately I am stuck at being able to backup my Eclair before I upgrade.
The instructions in the Cyanogenmod faq for keeping downgrade ability say the following:
7) How to install CM7 and keep downgrade-ability? (Froyo or Eclair)
...- Install Defy 2nd Init from Market
- Reboot to enter Bootmenu, then go to Custom Recovery
- In Custom Recovery, go to "backup and restore", then "Backup". This will take some time, your backup will be at /clockworkmod/backup. Copy it to a safe place.
- Still in recovery, go to "backup and restore", "restore", and select the nandroid backup of 3.4.2-179-2 CEE (not your backup!)
The above instructions at point 7) for backing up your stock Froyo or Eclair doesn't seem to work for people on Eclair.
It comes up with an error message saying the following:
"Clockwork Mod Recovery v2.5.1.8
E: Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0)
(No such file or directory)
Can't mount /sdcard"
I have tried formatting my sd card but I still get the same error message.
Any ideas?
