Does anyone have recommendations on the best method/software? I've always had iPhones so backing up an Android device is new territory.

Backing up S8 to Windows PC?

Have you looked at the backup option in SmartSwitch?

What is the purpose of your Backup?
Are you aware that you have 15GB of Samsung Cloud storage? You might be better off to transfer files there as they will be safer than a PC that could crash and lose your Backup.
Check out Samsung's Smart Switch App. This should help you accomplish the task for Cloud or PC. This page should get you on your way.

no place safer than using your samsung acct in settings then go to backup and restore.if pc gets corrupt its on samsung's backup cloud servers.

be redundant and do smartswitch and then on devices samsung backup to server
I have to s8 which developed a fault & had to go back to Samsung so I used Samsung cloud to backup but was forced to purchase a sub as my data was more than the free15gb ,after purchase I watched my data transferring then got completed transfer message so packed phone for posting
when the s8 returned I selected restore but not everything was reinstalled 14 gb data was missing ,tried repeating restore but still missing the data so contacted Samsung who apologised but said I must have not done the back up correct ?
when I backed up I selected back up ,then ticked select all ,then click back up
what else should I have done
so to me backing up to Samsung cloud is not the best option ,also Samsung tell me that any high scores in any games or not backed up WHY
after using the easy & reliable ITunes to back up my IPhone the Samsung way is a real bummer

thank you I have purchased coolmuster lifetime ,just wish I had known about this before I used samsungs cloud for the backup
