Help Backing up SMS/Text messages?

I have 2500+ messages stored for my girlfriend, and I was wanting to back them up before i delete them. When I try to text here it lags like crazy (I assume because it has all the messages on that page). Like, it will not respond and i have to wait like 15 seconds before i can type between messages sometimes.. very annoying. Anyways, I can't seem to find any way to back these up? Any help?
 
Thanks... but are there any free options for backing them up? I am finding it hard to believe it is this difficult, my cheap samsung phone that I replaced this one had the option easily accessible in the sync program.
