Backordered at J&Rs AND Tigerdirect

So I ended up ordering a Prime from tigerdirect on the 25th, and I was told a week later they were suddenly on backorder due to the high demand. I called them, and they said they had no records in their systems of any upcoming extra stock. Fantastic.

A few days later I pre-ordered from J&Rs instead. And two days ago, I got an e-mail telling me my order was on backorder.

WTF is going on here? Anyone else having this problem? Does this mean they're not shipping on the 19th?
 
Asus cannot meet demand. This is a shame because they had the same problem with the OG Transformer. iPad 2 dominates the market by a HUGE margin. This was to be the first chance to crack that a bit. However, supply side issues is no way to make a dent into a dominated market. They should have known that the demand would be extreme and prepared accordingly.

The issue now is everything is an unknown: preorders cannot be covered, no info if retail stock will be there, no info on numbers.

As long as there are poor launches, people will still be going to Apple.
 
I got a backorder notice from Adorama the day that I ordered (Dec 5). It since has disappeared from their website... Highly doubt it will ship on the 19th, I called and they said the 25th, Ill just need to stop by all stores on the 19th to see if they have stock I guess...
 
It wont make me look at ipad however if I am ready to buy and they have no availability for a few weeks it will push my purchase decision till February when the newest 11.6 inch retina display Samsung tab is rumored to be released.


I know how tech works and you will always be waiting for the next big thing. So I do not do that. But if a retina samasung tab is only weeks away because I can't find a transformer prime then of course I will wait a few weeks.

What's a few weeks for a product I plan to keep at least a year or 2.
 
I pre-ordered from B&H around Black Friday. This is the note I received from them last night:

Please be advised that your backorder is expected to arrive at our warehouse by the end of the month. As for the time that you have been given that is what we have received from the manufacturer. As soon as we receive it from our vendor we will promptly ship it to you. Once shipped we will notify you via e-mail. I'm sorry for any delay and for any inconvenience.

Looks like it's definitely not shipping on 12/19 or sooner.
 
I think of a pre-order as a backorder of an item that hasn't been released yet. Therefore I wasn't alarmed when I received a backorder email for TigerDirect after placing my pre-order.
 
KDLMaj - I got the same email. It just means they don't have to stock yet. Nothing has change with your order. We should not expect anything from J&R til Jan 31st at the latest. Anything earlier is a plus. BTW Jan 31st is a date I made up, I have no idea when it will come but I was told some time in January.

Here is part of the email:
" If this is a "special
order" or a "pre-order" item, please be aware that this email is
automatically sent on all orders that are waiting for stock to arrive."
 
I have one preordered from J&R and Adorama and got out of stock emails for both which each company assured me was normal for pre-orders. Then I called both today and both companies said after the holidays. They haven't received any yet. I'm not one of these jackasses that gets angry at this stuff but once I promised myself a new toy, I've been eagerly awaiting its release. Sooner is better than later and I just don't want to make a bad decision as to where I pre-ordered. Whenever America gets it is when I want to get it. I don't want to be that day plus another 5 months while production catches up to demand. That's why I have both pre-orders live while I only want one keyboard/tablet.
