Help Backup account is grayed out/not available

I'm running Android 6.0.1 on a Galaxy S5. Backup is turned on, but it doesn't let me choose a backup account. I'm logged into Google Drive and when I look at the Backups, it tells me my device is not backed up and sends me to settings where I'm unable to add my account. Google Play Services is running. Under Settings/Backup/Accounts/Google, everything is checkmarked. What am I missing?

Hi, I would suggest you use Samsung's Smartswitch to back up your phone. Phil
