Backup / Copy Apps from Phone to PC

Is there a simple way (simple as in no rooting or third party apps required) to copy apps from my Samsung Captivate (Froyo) to my pc?

I ask this because there are a bunch of apps that have updates for them and I would love to be able to copy them to my PC before updating in case I want to revert. Previously I upgraded my Google Voice app to a newer version and regretted it because the newer version had some weird quirks.

EDIT: Side question that may be related. Is it possible to sideload apps on the Captivate yet?

Root may be required for some apps but it seems the most popular way to try a full backup is to use something like Titanium backup.

With some Google/Android apps you also should have an option under the OS settings > Manage applications to uninstall updates.

So to answer your question, you would need a third party app generally.

You might want to ask about sideloading on the Samsung Captivate forum here:

You could also try Googling "Sideload Wonder Machine"
