Root Bad Battery?

This may be a silly question but I wanted to throw it out there...

I have recently begun to experience random reboots (yet again) and it appears this time it is for no apparent reason. Recent, I had my LG extended battery tested at a Verizon store and the test yielded the battery was delivering erratic voltage. The rep told me my battery is bad and likely the cause of my phones rebooting/random issues that have been going on. "Here, buy a new on and move along!"

I was not too satisfied with the response from the rep and wanted to ask the community.

Do you feel it's unlikely that a battery can lead to these troubles or is this quite common. I have read different opinions on other boards regarding this issue. Before I spend the $40 on amazon for a new battery, I want to hear your opinion.

Thanks for reading.

-edit-

I just realized this is posted in the wrong forum. Can I have this moved to the lg spectrum forum? Sorry for the hassle...

I'm not really sure how true that is, but I can tell you I found an OEM battery on Amazon for around $19 so the 40 seems over priced. Also since using my new one I've had zero reboots. Like I said I'm not sure if there really is any correlation there.

I tend to avoid amazon when it comes to the private vendors. If the item is sold by amazon I will usually ship without problem.

From what I have read it seems a bad battery can cause reboots if it's not delivering enough power to the phone. If I can find something shipped directly from amazon I am sure I will be ordering one soon.

Thanks for the response.

Look at the seller return policies which are sometimes same as Amazon policies. I've returned to private Sellers also. Just incurred shipping and restocking.

But on another note, have you considered stock extended via VZW, I got the stock extended thru local store though they had to find it and have it shipped. At that time there was a 50 percent off deal, may want to see if that's still possible.

I have actually and the rep told me they no longer carry that battery. I actually ordered another one from Amazon today.

I've been using the $10 jumbo eBay one for a couple of months now. No problems yet, it lasted a good long while, but you can still kill a full charge in a few hours with 4g/GPS/screen on.

My wife is having all sorts of problems with her battery life. Her phone used to reboot randomly also and now on ICS her battery life is still pretty bad. I purchased JD Ultimate for her. I've been searching the forums for information on batteries but not finding what I want. What is the largest battery that still fits in the stock back and are there any brands that I should avoid? The Onite batteries on Amazon seem to be getting pretty bad reviews... Any help would be greatly appreciated.
