LOL . . . never fails, a Deliverance joke. Who wouda dun thunked? For the record, I have never, ever made anything squeal like a pig. Except when I rock out through a Marshall Stack; there is some measure of squealing.

The noise helps the banjo sound better.

I bought a used banjo from a pawn shop while in my teens. Was far too poor for lessons and lacked any natural talent. (I struggle to play a radio) I did have some fun and managed to get my money back a few years later. I admire anyone that can play the instrument.

You should take it up once again. It is America's national instrument and brought here by the slaves (in one iteration) and girls really dig banjo players. Especially if you are a success and you take 'em out for vittles and buy then another tooth.

Or, perhaps visit a real music dealer (rather than a big box music chain where kids that cant even spell banjer sell whatever is handy) and buy a nice used banjo. Or visit Deering and drop $70,000.00 for a nice custom job.

When Earl invented the Scruggs picking style, the banjo rocked out from then on. Everyone knows Banjos rule, and everyone wants to learn to play.

These days, there are some great teachers offering DVD lessons and they are generally quite good. Makes learning very convienent.

Closer than you think. Early on, banjo players were trouble. Thought of much like the public perception of rock guitarists.

About banjos, beside the number of strings, is there such a big difference in playability when compared to a guitar?
