Barcode Scanner to use with PC

So, I've been trying to find something I can use my phone as a barcode scanner with, for inventory management and PC input.

I know, that sounds confusing, I'm not articulate, forgive me.

Basically I need my phone to be a (Wireless or wired) USB barcode scanner, for computer input.

I've found a few similar things on the market which, are obviously not free or even worth the money it charges. I've just started an Amazon selling account after a fallout with eBay and amazon is just not as well formatted for small time sellers.

Any suggestions? Apologies in advance if I put this in the wrong place or if there is a similar thread some where else.

Thanks.

Hi there, Hizerslougha.

Apologies in advance if I put this in the wrong place or if there is a similar thread some where else.
No problem. :) I've moved this to the Android Apps board.

Hope you get some great suggestions for the type of app you're looking for.

It's not clear to me exactly what you're trying to accomplish.

A) If you want your phone to act as a scanner that automatically integrates with some kind of inventory management software on your PC, then I think you'd have to ask your inventory management software maker if they have an app.

B) If you simply want to scan barcodes and send them to your PC, you could do that in either of two main ways with the free app, Barcode Scanner.
  1. In its default scan mode Barcode Scanner lets you scan a single barcode and then it automatically goes to a look-up page, from which you can look up the item or share it with your PC as an image and text (over your local network* or by email). You could make a note in the email about how many units of that barcode are in inventory.
  2. If you go into the settings for Barcode Scanner and check the box "Bulk Scan Mode", you can scan multiple barcodes. The phone remains in scan mode so you can just scan barcode after barcode.

In both modes, you can hit the "settings" button and then "History" and send to your PC (by email or LAN*) a CSV-spreadsheet of all barcodes scanned (and the time-stamp of when they were scanned). Your PC can read the CSV spreadsheet with software like Excel, Open Office, Google Docs, etc. Unfortunately, there is no way to note the quantity of each barcode in the "history".

*Sharing over your local area network (LAN) would require that you've networked your phone to your PC with an app like the free app, ES File Explorer.
